Census Controversy Surrounding Fresno Latino Community

Fresno, Calif. (KMPH News) — If you haven't already received one in the mail, you will. The 2010 U.S. Census forms are scheduled to arrive this week to hundreds of thousands of people across the valley.

In response the city of Fresno is waging an extensive campaign to make sure that everyone — especially minorities are counted.

"Yes, we filled it out already," Fresno resident Felix Charies said.

He and Irma Ortiz say they got their forms in the mail on Monday.

"I received it already, I plan on filling it out," Ortiz said.

While the Latino community is growing in numbers – one Mexican advocacy group says many are far from feeling empowered.
